Project 3
Our project is coming along very nicely and Crystina is such a joy to work with. We both have been feeding off each other's ideas and trying to make them better. We met at the park down the street from school last Thursday during the furlough time and took some pictures of some bright kids toys. We are creating a story about two little pals and I think it is going to be very cute. To tie in the stock photo idea we are making one whole side of the book a picture and then the other side a bright colored paper. In between will be vellum with some shape cut out of it and it will slowly get bigger and bigger. Crystina had this idea, kind of like an old movie when they pan out. The same shape will flip onto the bright paper to focus on whatever little storyline we have for these two characters on that page. At the end we will have something about how the right photo can complete your whole design and these two characters go hand in hand just like your photo and your design. We have not nailed down all the dialogue yet but that is what we plan on working on in class on Tuesday.
Field Trip
The field trip to Typecraft was very informative. David gave us such a thorough explanation and tour of the printing facilities. You think about things going to press and how you would set them up,etc. But it doesn't really hit home until you really see what it is like at a printing company. Going into typecraft reminded me of my job working at a small print shop during high school. I had forgotten about this, it was long before the time that I thought about becoming graphic designer. Seeing everything that goes into it really makes you appreciate design. David really shows a passion for the work that they have created. He really made me think about what it means to be a graphic designer, it made me proud and inspired me to create works of art like some of the one's he showed us.
Project Three
My lovely partner Crystina and I discussed many options today (including designing a peice for the paper company "Dundler Mifflin"..haha) and came up with what I think is going to be a fun and successful idea. She is really interested in photography so we are going to utilize her skills and make a promo peice for a stock photography company. Our idea is to have a fun theme of looking through a child's eyes or even trying to touch on adults inner child with different photographs and bright colored paper on the opposite side of the photograph throughout the book.
We are both researching and brainstorming ideas for photos as well as what photostock company this peice will be made for.

First Draft
So I had a mishap with my file and had to start completely over??? You never think it is going to happen to you and then it does and it is just another reminder of how important it is to save your work frequently and in many different places. Anyways..I am obviously still working on it. I plan on giving it more dimension with the background and the type but this is the general idea and I plan to carry on the blowing dandelion seeds throughout the rest. Cheers!!
Happy Spring Break everyone....I hope people are checking in because I need a lot of feedback to help me through this project..thanks

Digital Roughs of Package Design
I need A LOT of work I know....I am either doing the dandelion idea or the swirls with the Ai going across diagonally. With the dandelion I want to work on doing something funky with the picture. The orange one is just an example but I would definetely improve on it dramatically. I need to get my photoshop tutorial book out and find something really interesting to do to the photo. I like the idea of the seeds being used throughout the package like "ideas" being blown around (?) make sense??? The idea with the swirls is that it can be continued as well. The package would be all white and I would like the lettering to look like a shadow or burned in to the white so they would not be "outlined" like they are now, it would be outlined with a soft color or shadow?? I need to figure out how to do that in photoshop. But if you can picture the lettering like that with bright, warm colored swirls behind it that is the idea there??? And yes, if I go that route I would dramatically improve on the swirls as well, these are just traced from the internet and are not one's that I would use in my design.
Cheers!!!!!
Cheers!!!!!
